PROGRAMS:
SAFE SLEEP CHAMPIONS

Immunizations are essential in disease prevention. Vaccines were developed and made available to help control the spread of infectious diseases that were once devastating for the citizens of this country. Vaccines are safe and effective against many diseases including polio, hepatitis, meningitis, measles, pertussis (whooping cough), mumps and many others.
INFLUENZA

West Nile virus (WNV) is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental United States. It is most commonly spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito. Cases of WNV occur during mosquito season, which starts in the summer and continues through fall. There are no vaccines to prevent or medications to treat WNV in people. Fortunately, most people infected with WNV do not feel sick. About 1 in 5 people who are infected develop a fever and other symptoms. About 1 out of 150 infected people develop a serious, sometimes fatal, illness.

CARSEAT SAFETY

Loup Basin Smiles is a fluoride varnish program for head starts, preschools, and elementary schools in LBPHD's 9 districts. We provide this program every school year to help reduce oral disease and improve the oral health of our students. LBPHD uses licensed dental hygienists to perform oral screenings and apply fluoride varnish treatments to children's teeth. The program reaches over 2,000 students during the school year.

LBPHD completes a Community Health Assessment (CHA) every 5 years to help us gather information about the districts current health status, needs and issues. This information will then help LBPHD with developing a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) by identifying what resources and education needs to be given to best meet community needs to help improve health concerns.
